Management for the Small Design Firm: Handling Your Practice, Personnel, Finances and Projects
Published in Hardcover by Whitney Library of Design (June, 1998)
Average review score:

Well rounded introductionI bought this book as a prep for a licensing exam. I found it to be a good starting point for further research. (a handy bibliography is provided at the end of the book) The author does a good job at introducing issues that get ignored in the general education of a designer. At least half of the book was case studys the methodology of practicing designers.

Masquerade of Love (Candlelight Ecstasy Classic Romance, No 48)
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (January, 1987)
Average review score:

More than just romanceWell, I'm not big on romance novels, and the only reason I actually read this one was because my grandmother is the author. Basically, I started reading it with expectations of another cheesy romance story. Although it had the standard romance stuff, what surprised me was that it also had some action and suspense. I read the book in two days, that's fast for me, and once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down. It was almost like watching a movie, it was so vivid and descriptive. Besides the little tidbits of romance that I personally don't favor, I think it was a good book. I just wish my grandmother had lived long enough for me to show her my appreciation of this novel, and maybe others I may read in the future.

Medieval Persia, 1040-1797 (History of the Near East Series)
Published in Hardcover by Longman Group United Kingdom (March, 1988)
Average review score:

Medieval PersiaDr. Morgan states that his purpose for writing this book is to provide a clear, concise history of Persia after the arrival of the saljuqs until the rise of the Qajar dynasty. He also states that he hopes to prove the legitimacy of calling this time period "medieval." In both tasks he succeded. Though brief, only 160 pages of text, the book demonstrates how Persian history in this time period, though it appears fragmented, is actually unified in the continuation of Persian culture, and administrative structure. This book is certainly intended for the students of the Middle East, and while Morgan spends agood deal of time cataloguing rulers and battles, he spends an equal amount of time with religious, economic, social and cultural aspects of the period. The book is well laid out, in chronological order. Each chapter is appropriately titled, and the book follows a consistent pattern. If you have an interest in Persia, this book is extremely interesting.

Migrating Legacy Systems: Gateways, Interfaces & the Incremental Approach (Morgan Kaufmann Series in Data Management Systems)
Published in Paperback by Morgan Kaufmann (April, 1995)
Average review score:

Good summary of architectural-level changes. The authors give an 11-step process to migrating legacy systems, which they rightfully define as systems for which changes to it are too difficult but which are nonetheless important to maintain. They analyze the kinds of systems that need migration and offer different suggestions regarding the migration path.
This work is an honest appraisal of the difficulties however, and notes failures and the reasons for them.

More Illustrated Word Smart: A Visual Vocabulary Builder (Princeton Review Series)
Published in Paperback by Princeton Review (14 August, 2001)
Average review score:

Great for busy non-native speakersI was studying for GMAT and did not have much time to memorize a thousand words or even mental capacity even if I quite my job and had time. The book is pretty good for not too cool vocabulary wizards. I knew about 25% of the words that it had such as prolific or excentric but there were some good ones that I still remember such as vociferous and verdant. Generally, a very pleasant book. It has good white paper and each page has one I liked it because I could go really fast (since I knew a few words from each chapter). Remebering was easy too, but forgetting was not hard either. Sometimes I caught myself that I would remember the picture but would not remember the definition. In any case, this is a much faster way to learn words than mere memorizing. Even though I give it 4 out of 5, this is a great book!

It kept me goingI read this book in one weekend. I couldn't put it down. The characters were interesting. It covered several generations of the same family and covered many interesting issues and aspects of the medical profession. It kept me going until I had to get to the end to find out how the story and plot cam etogether. I will look for other books by this same author.

Mormon Thunder: A Documentary History of Jedediah Morgan Grant
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (September, 1982)
Average review score:

An Objective View of a Fascinating PioneerJedediah M. Grant has been considered one of the most remarkable early members of the Church, an example of what a classic early Latter-day Saint pioneer was like, and yet is one of the most misunderstood and least documented of all significant early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From Kirtland to Jackson County, from Nauvoo to Utah, he had been with all the major movements of the Saints, and yet few within the Church know him as anything other than the father of Heber J. Grant. He was an inspiring missionary, an obedient servant, and for his last two years, a member of the First Presidency of the Church with Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball. Gene Sessions does a wonderful job of painting the picture of this leader, while keeping the objectivity necessary to make this work one of scholarly value. Mary Judd's (Jedediah's granddaughter) work "Jedediah M. Grant- Pioneer Statesman" is the only other published work on him of which I am aware. Gene's far surpasses this work in breadth and depth, allowing us to know this man's historical and spiritual sides. I highly recommend this work as one that both inspires and informs. This book may not be widely circulated due to the obscurity of it's subject but Gene Sessions has done all he can to bring this fascinating man into the spotlight.
Written in an informal conversational style the book is an encouragement to mothers, and fathers, especially young parents. The stories told help readers feel that the authors have walked the same road they are on. The difference between the roles filled by mothers and fathers is explained without making one superior to the other. Children need two parents working together in harmony. The authors help parents work toward that goal which in turn makes the husband and wife relationship healthier and happier. This is an excellent book to put into the hands of first time parents especially but is helpful for everyone who interacts with children, even grandparents and other relatives.
